For those men who are fighting prostate cancer, it might be good to know that there are health remedies that can help. These remedies are otherwise known as “alternative medicine.” The alternative medicine movement has been gaining ground within the last few years. It can help with a person’s health, wellness, and well-being. The question is can it actually help diseases as well? More specifically, can they help prostate cancer? In the past, people in general ate foods such as meat, vegetables, fruits, and grains. Today, the diet often contains fats, oils, high fructose corn syrup, red dye number two, and many other unhealthy additives. It has been found that up to 42 percent of men take both traditional and alternative medicine, according to Dan Theodorrescu, M.D., PhD and other colleagues from The University of Virginia at Charlottesville . According to the American Cancer Society website, many men are using such methods as herbs, vitamins, and prayer to aid in their treatment of their prostate cancer. Although these methods have not been known to hurt the patient, it is advisable to let a physician know about the usage of these methods.
The Mayo Clinic website says there are many supplements that can aid in the treatment of prostate cancer. There are certain herbs that can work to help prostate cancer. Chaparral is a creosote bush or greasewood found in the southwest of the United States and also Mexico. It has not been shown that it totally treat cancer and sometimes the treatment can be worse then the ailment as this supplement can cause liver failure. Shark cartilage has an additive that stops the growth of cancerous growths. It is unknown if it would have the same success with humans as it has with sharks. There are other great products on the market that help with common problems with prostate problems. These include many different herbs such as Pumpkin, Stinging nettle, and Rye grass Alternative medicine can be used along with traditional medicine. Before choosing an alternative therapy, it is important to research it and get the facts on what it can do and it’s side effects. Once decided on what method to take, be sure to inform a physician and if he or she puts the decision in a negative light, it is always a good idea to seek a second opinion.
